GROW AID - 'SLUG GONE' PELLETS MADE BY PELLETING WASTE SHEEP FLEECE
Here are a few words from the manufacturer : -
Wool fibres have very fine scales with small barbs on the tip called cuticle cells. These cause wool fibres to felt and mat together. Wool fibres are very hygroscopic, plus the sand and grit already in the compound together with the potassium salts from the sweat glands of the sheep absorb some of the slime from the slugs 'foot' causing irritation - making the slug go elsewhere for easier feeding.
The wool pellets are placed around the plants in a 6" - 8" diameter collar and watered. Within a short space of time the pellets will swell up, bind together and form an insulation mat around the plant that will not blow or wash away. It will stay undisturbed around the plant for up to 12 months as it bio-degrades and breaks down.
The pellets have been tested for the N.P.K. content and are a good mix and balance for growing plants.
They also hold twice their own weight in water, so they act as : -
75% of the raw material comes from British fleeces.
The Grow Aid - 'Slug Gone' pellets will be available at the Hut from January 2009, in the meantime any interested members should see Fred Dickinson at the hut about orders - to avoid any initial disappointment about availability.
Fred has already trialled the pellets and found them to be easy to use and extrememly effective.
